Clashes erupt as forces tried to arrest local youth in Kulgam village | KNO

Srinagar, April 05 (KNO): Massive clashes erupted between youth and government forces after forces attempted to arrested a local youth in Poniwah village in Bugam area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district. Reports reaching to KNO said that on Friday evening forces laid a siege to few houses in Poniwah village and tried to arrest a local youth who is said to be a religious cleric who according to locals was evading arrest from last one year. As news spread, youth assembled and took to streets and started pelting stones on government forces which was retaliated by smoking tear gas and sound shells, they said. As per reports, several youth has got injured however it was not immediately confirmed by officials. One Army man was also injured during the incident, reports added. More forces have been rushed to be spot and clashes were on when this report was filed. An official while denying the reports that they had to arrest any youth said that they had inputs about the militants in the area that is why area was cordoned off.(KNO)
